Sully Sweeps the Series, Colombian Angela Parra Wins Women's Division The sun was shining and conditions were optimum at Laguna Lake, in San Luis Obispo, California. Eric "SULLY" Sullivan from Crested Butte, Colorado has been winning the series rather handedly. To everyone's surprize, San Luis Obispo star triathlete Chris Stehula shot out of the start of the 6 mile trail run like a cannon. He opened up a 2 minute lead on the run, but would see 5 athetes pass him on the 6 mile water section. Sully opened up his lead on the 9 mile techincal mountain bike section. Chris Stehula would claw his way back up, hold on to second with Huntington Beach star Slater Fletcher on his heals with 3rd place. Angela Parra came all the way from Bogota, Colombia to race California Multisport. Pressure was on to keep the streak of South American women dominating the series. Claire Thompson came in from Calgary, Canada and had great aspirations of a top finish. Tiffany Myers of Redondo was ready to put an end to the South American domination. Angela would open up a 1 minute lead on the run. On the water, Claire would put down the fasted female time of the day. She's put 6 minutes on the womens field, Angela stuggled on the kayak section, but on the bike her prowess would show, and the lead changes hands and stays that way all the way back to the finish line. Claire holds onto second, and Veronica Williams and Lori Koivisto joust for 3rd place, with veteran Orienteering specialist Veronica Williams of Carlsbad rounding out the podium. Tiffany Myers wins the series, and full ride sponsorship for 2009 Multisport Series. Honorable mention goes to 14 year old champion Austin White, of Somis, California. Austin attended every race this year, and impressed us all with his speed and consistancy. Expect to see him on the circuit next year chipping away at all the adults. |
